What does Alcohol do in Human body?
What is Alcohol?
Ethanol is simply called as Alcohol. Its also referred as Ethyl alcohol or Grain alcohol - the Primary ingredient in alcoholic bevvies. Ethanol is a colorless liquid that is a byproduct of plant fermentation. Ethanol is formed when yeast ferments the sugar in plants. The Maximum of Alcohol percentage in beverages is 70-95% (Vodka).
What happens to Human body?
Alcohol is mainly a depressant, but it actually has stimulating effects when you first start drinking. It begins to do its work as earlier, it reaches your mouth, and its effects become more noticeable as the alcohol makes its way through your body.
- Mouth : As soon as alcohol passes your lips, some of it gets into your bloodstream through the tiny blood vessels in your mouth and tongue.
- Stomach and Small Intestine : Up to 20% of the Alcohol you drink goes into your bloodstream through your stomach. The rest of it gets in your bloodstream via your small intestine.
- Bloodstream : Bloodstream can move Alcohol through your body quickly. Here, Alcohol causes blood vessels to widen and it result in skin flushing, a temporary feeling of warmth, a rapid decrease in body temperature, a drop in blood pressure.
- Brain : Alcohol reaches the brain within 5 minutes and can feel the effect within 10 minutes. When the concentration of alcohol begins to increase in bloodstream, starts feel good. This is because Alcohol stimulate the release of dopamine and serotonin, which are rightfully referred to as your "Feel Good" hormones. Alcohol depresses your central Nervous system and interferes with your brain's communication pathways, which affects how your brain processes information. This causes slurred speech, loss of concentration, blurred vision, dizziness.
- Kidney : ADH- Antidiuretic Hormone. It is produced in your brain, which tells your kidney how much water to conserve. Due to Alcohol intake, it suppresses ADH which causes your kidney to release more water. This is the reason behind over urination when you drink.
- Lungs : Some of the Alcohol you drink makes it into your lungs. You breathe out about 8% of the alcohol you drink. This Alcohol evaporates from your blood through your lungs and moves into your breath.
- Liver : Liver oxidize Alcohol into water and carbon monoxide. a human body can oxidize one unit of alcohol per hour. So, the more you drink it may leads to high risk of Alcoholic Poisoning.
